  1. Phthalic anhydride is a cyclic anhydride and is an important chemical raw material, especially for plasticizer manufacturing.
  2. Dibutyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate are important plasticizers. Phthalic anhydride and polyols (such as glycerol, and pentaerythritol) can generate polyacrylate resin in a condensation way, used in the paint industry; if an unsaturated acid with ethylene glycol condensation, the resulting chemicals are unsaturated polyester resin, for the manufacturing of insulating paint and glass fiber reinforced plastics.
  3. Phthalic anhydride is used in the manufacture of unsaturated polyesters and as a curing agent for epoxy resins. When used as a pigment, it can be responsible for sensitization in ceramic workers.
